Waffles: Safe for Dogs and Cats?

A bite of a plain waffle is unlikely to harm most dogs, but waffles are high in refined carbohydrates, fat, and salt. Chocolate, raisins, nutmeg, syrup, whipped cream, or xylitol-containing mixes and toppings change the risk.

Plain waffles are not inherently toxic to cats, but they add fat, salt, sugar, and carbohydrates without useful feline nutrition. Mix-ins and toppings such as chocolate, raisins, syrup, or whipped cream require a separate check.
