Soda: Safe for Dogs and Cats?
Regular soda is not appropriate for dogs due to its high sugar and caffeine content, both of which can cause digestive upset, and caffeinated soda can reach toxic levels; diet sodas may contain xylitol, which is highly toxic, so labels must be checked.
Toxic principle: Caffeine; xylitol in some diet/sugar-free sodas
Watch for
- Restlessness
- Rapid breathing
- Abnormal heart rhythm
- Muscle tremors
- Vomiting
