Lentils: Safe for Dogs and Cats?
SafeDogs
Plain, fully cooked lentils are safe for most healthy dogs in a small amount, but raw lentils, large portions, lentil soup, seasoning, and using lentils as a primary protein change the answer.
Safe serving: A small spoonful of fully cooked lentils with no salt, stock, onion, garlic, oil, or seasoning.
CautionCats
Plain, fully cooked lentils are not toxic to cats, but they offer limited value to an obligate carnivore and can cause digestive upset. Lentil soup often contains onion, garlic, salt, or stock and is a different exposure.
