Ginger: Safe for Dogs and Cats?

SafeDogs

Ginger in small amounts is safe for most dogs and is recognized by AAFCO as safe for pet food; it is even used to help settle nausea, but it can act as a blood thinner, so dogs on certain medications or with bleeding disorders should avoid it.

Safe serving: A small pinch of fresh or powdered ginger occasionally, introduced gradually and with vet input for dogs on medication.

CautionCats

Ginger is generally tolerated by cats in very small, controlled amounts, but there are no formal safety studies in cats, and it should be avoided in cats with bleeding disorders, gallbladder disease, or those on certain medications, so check with your veterinarian first.
