Raw or Green Potato: Safe for Dogs and Cats?

Raw, green, or sprouting potato contains compounds that cooking mostly neutralizes, so uncooked or green potato is treated as toxic while a plain cooked potato is fine in moderation.
Toxic principle: solanine and chaconine, glycoalkaloids concentrated in green or sprouting potato skin, flesh, and foliage
Watch for
- drowsiness
- dry mouth
- gastrointestinal upset
- weakness
- tremors
- difficulty breathing in severe cases
Cats are also considered sensitive to the solanine and chaconine found in raw or green potato, and the plant's leaves and stems should be kept away from them as well.
